• Investment in 50+ support team on the ground in China is a step towards building a global ‘Centre of Engineering & Procurement Excellence’
  • Established local infrastructure is essential to secure access to the most advanced battery energy storage technology and manufacturing capabilities on offer globally

Shanghai, 11/06/2024 – Global energy storage company Pacific Green has announced a significant expansion in its China-based support team in order to secure a sustainable long-term supply of advanced battery technology for its growing 12GWh+ project pipeline.

Active in China since 2017, recruitment this year has seen Pacific Green’s Shanghai team grow beyond 50 people for the first time, with an array of specialist clean energy expertise across engineering, quality control, sustainability, procurement and finance.

This team plays a vital role in maintaining Pacific Green’s access to the leading energy storage technologies available in the global market, enabling the business to work in partnership with major manufacturers to develop systems that meet the specific operational needs of its projects across the UK, Australia, Italy and Poland.

The strength of this local support network also gives Pacific Green a unique level of oversight into its supply chain, ensuring the highest possible standards of safety and quality control, and the timely delivery of project-critical equipment.

Over the next 9 months, the business plans a further 20 new hires in China as it builds a ‘Centre of Engineering & Procurement Excellence’ that will become its global hub for procurement and logistics – complementing the significant project financing and development expertise within the existing London and Melbourne offices.

Christo Hammes, Pacific Green’s Chief Operating Officer, said:

“We’ve always taken a hands-on approach to our supply chain partnerships so as to ensure timely access to quality products, tailored to our needs. As more and more battery storage markets open up worldwide, it’s clear that the quicker we grow our Shanghai operations, the quicker we can expand our global portfolio of projects.”

“But it’s not just about access to hardware. We cannot ignore the pivotal role that China now fulfils as a technology leader in battery energy storage, with an enviable commitment to R&D and an unrivalled pace of innovation. By also being in China, we’re able to plan for tomorrow’s technology today.”

“Pacific Green has a long history of working in close partnership with leading Chinese clean technology and battery manufacturers, helping us to deliver projects that make a tangible difference across major global markets. As we invest in Shanghai as our Centre of Engineering & Procurement Excellence, we intend to bring the very best people into our team and continue fostering the global collaboration that’s needed to make a success of the energy transition.”

Du Yangfan, Pacific Green’s General Manager in Shanghai, said:

“The development of an Engineering and Procurement Centre of Excellence in Shanghai allows Pacific Green to build on the strong existing relationships throughout the supply chain.

“We are proud of the team and capability assembled in Shanghai and believe ours to be a unique approach to product development, procurement, production management and quality control.  The operational benefits of scaling our team are clear and we are ideally placed to respond to the bespoke requirements of global development and industrial partners alike.”
